우미노히 (청담동) – Korean seafood omakase in 청담동 right near JYP. This restaurant has been around for 14 years. Very energetic and extremely hospitable owner-chef. Incredibly fresh, delicious food.
It’s a small restaurant with about 6 tables and a counter space with 10 seats. If you are going with a small party, then I would suggest you sit at the counter to talk with the owner chef. Don’t worry though, the owner-chef goes around to each table taking shots of whatever drink you’re having. He is a wonderful host.
Even though it says “Japanese” restaurant on the sign, this is not your traditional Japanese omakase restaurant. I would characterize it as a Korean omakase. After all, the word “omakase” means at the chef’s discretion and fresh seafood prepared different ways is what is going to be served.
The first few dishes are sashimi slices that are presented in front of you and then [BAM] a plate of shellfish – oyster, uni (sea urchin), 멍게 (sea pineapple, hoya or maboya) and other delicious delights – get presented in front of you. From that point on, different cooked fish dishes gets served. Overall, it’s a lot of food. Be prepared to eat.
6-9 PM is omakase course at W140,000. From 9 pm to 2 AM, you can order a la carte. Closed on Sunday.
