In Japanese cuisine, robatayaki (炉端焼き or “fireside-cooking”) is a BBQ in which seafood, meat, pork, vegetables are cooked over hot charcoal.

At 로바타탄요 – Robata Tanyo – in Apgujungdong (in the back alley of Garosugil), they BBQ the food right in front of you. They have been open for a little over a year.

This robatayaki is bar seating only. This is to allow the employees to quickly and conveniently man the grill to cook the food for you. They have two tables connected to the bar which seats 4 people. Any more than 3-4 is not conducive for group chatting due to the bar seating arrangement.

What is great about this place is that they grill everything for you. You don’t have to lift up a tong to cook anything. Grilling BBQ table side in Korea is so overrated. They take great care in grilling the chicken. It comes out very moist on the inside.

Everything tasted great and the price point was very friendly too. I would absolutely recommend this place. I plan on going back real soon.

They are only open for dinner from 6 PM on. Closed on Sunday. It is strongly recommended that you call and make reservations just to make sure that you’re not waiting.
