매운향솥. A Chinese restaurant in Konkuk University that serves Ma La Xiang Guo (Spicy Numbing Stir-fry Pot) in addition to other Chinese specialities. On September 1, 2018, they moved 100 meters to the left from their smaller 2-story location to a new and bigger first floor location.
They have a self-service Mala Xiang Guo meat and produce refrigerator where you have to use two (2) separate bowls – (1) Meats in one bowl and (2) Vegetables in another bowl. The items are weighed – W3,000 per 100 grams. Shrimp is based on market price.
For the Mala Xiang Guo, ask them to add some (“jia ma”) and they throw in some Sichuan peppercorn oil to make the dish more Sichuan in flavor – i.e., tongue numbing sensation.
All of the dishes you order from the menu were relatively small sized and reasonably priced. Think of it as the Chinese version of tapas dishes – small enough that you can order a lot of different dishes. I like that. The best dish by far was the fried squid. It had a nice salt ‘n pepper taste while being crispy yet moist. All-in-all, all of the dishes we ordered were tasty and would order again.
