갓포아키 (Kappo Akii) is one of my favorite Japanese izakaya in Seoul. The term izakaya means a Japanese drinking restaurant that serves a range of food like yakitori, edamame, grilled fish, sashimi, sushi, a variety of fried food like karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken), nabe (Japanese hotpot) and salads.
Kappo Akii was highlighted on the tvN food show – 수요미식회 (Wednesday Foodie Roundtable) highlighting Japanese drinking restaurants – March 24, 2016 (Episode #58). The two other izakayas highlighted were Negi (네기) in Garosugil and Ichiae (이치에) in Apgujungdong.
Kappo Akii has 3 locations – (1) Gangnam Dosan Park (2) Cheongdam (near Apgujung Rodeo Station) and (3) Yeoido (Glad Hotel, 14th Floor). All 3 locations serve the identical menu.
I tend to go to the Dosan Park location. A couple of tips. Dosan Park only accepts reservations for up to 4 people. They start accepting reservations after 2:30 PM. Larger parties has to go to Cheongdam because they have a table that can seat up to 6-7. They don’t accept reservations later than 7 PM. They’re open till 1 AM. Yeoido is the newest location.
NOTE: They will send you a text message on the day of your reservation asking you to confirm that you’re attending. Reply back and confirm that you’re coming that evening. Otherwise your reservation may be gone!
Everything on the menu is fantastic.
