가네끼스시 – Kaneki Sushi, located on the 2nd floor of an officetel building in Dongjak-gu right next to SNU Boramae Hospital, is a Japanese omakase eatery with a kaunta seki that seats 11 patrons. There is a private room that fits 6 people. Why would you want to eat in a private room if you are at a Japanese omakase.
Kaneki has been in business for 8 years and 5 years at its current location. They have 4 dinner omakase choices – W70,000, W90,000, W120,000. There is a secret, hidden 4thchoice and that is the special W160,000. This one is not listed on the menu.
If you live in the Dongjak-gu area, then Kaneki is a decent choice with the W90,000 omakase course. Compared to Sushi Shouki, Kaneki failed to meet the high expectation when one spends W90,000 at a Japanese omakase. Kaneki’s W90,000 omakase did not include any other “high” end ingredient dishes – i.e., ikura, truffles, etc. I mean how expensive is ikura. AND who the hell doesn’t prepare and give a slice of a futomaki roll at the very end of the meal. After we commented on “where the roll is,” he prepared a small maki roll. #disappointing.
For a restaurant in THIS location, I would have expected more quality ingredients for that price. Would I travel all the way out to Dongjak-gu and spend W90,000 for a Japanese omakase at Kaneki? No but that goes to my point that if you live very close to here or happen to be in the area, it may be worth checking out. However, SFP will pass on this one.
