Le Chat Botté

장화신은고양이 (Mangwon Dong) – Le Chat Botté

It’s a French bistro that’s been open for 2 years in the deep back alleys of Mangwon Dong. Every dish that we ate was delicious. Wife kept on saying “How can he still be in business using such quality ingredients and not being so expensive?” SFP replies, “It could be because the rent is so cheap because he is 3 alleys deep from the big street and in a basement….” It’s also the fact that he’s keeping his overhead costs low because it’s just him for now. He doesn’t have any other workers. It’s a one-man show.

As a starter plate, absolutely get the gnocchi. It’s made in-house from scratch. He uses fresh sage and freshly grated grana padano cheese.

The French wine selection also started at W35,000. Good value!

SFP will be posting his next visit when he goes for the Beef Wellington course meal. Note that his Beef Wellington course meal requires advance reservation and advance payment of W50,000 per person. SFP is going to have the course meal at the end of March. He will let you know if it’s any good.

He uses the well-known and very easy to recognize French silverware – Laguiole
W35,000 for this first bottle to start the meal. Good to see a W35,000 bottle of wine on the menu.
The gnocchi – Homemade
Fresh sage and grand padang cheese
The 항정살 – pork jowl/neck with potato and cheese
Our second bottle of wine at W55,000
This delicious delight of sauerkraut and meats was pressure cooked. We loved it. The soup broth was very refreshing. Unfortunately, this is a winter dish and it will NO longer be offered on the menu anymore since we are slowly approaching spring
Notice the cat house.
Call or text him (in English) for reservations. He said that he will try to speak English. Recommend you try text texting him in English first.
